Background
The original council was established August 17th, 2021 with a 2 year term. This means that as of August 17th, 2023, the council will be out of compliance with the bylaws unless we schedule a new election by August 17th, 2023.
Following our discussion of the draft proposal [SCP-11] Confirm 2023 Council Election Process in the July 2023 council meeting and the Election & Rebranding Sequencing agenda item from the special council meeting on August 7th, 2023, there is rough consensus on how we would like the elections to happen, and a clear sense of how we can work towards executing against that vision.
In light of this, I would like to propose October 12th, 2023 as the date on which public voting to determine the new council roster should commence. This is not a proposal outlining the actual nomination or election processes, merely setting a date for us to work against and to maintain a degree of accountability under and compliance with the bylaws for us as a group.
Resolution
- The Council hereby commits to holding an election to determine the 5 new members who will be joining the council on October 12th, 2023.
- The Council may change this date via a majority decision so as the chosen date is not later than February 17th, 2024 (6 months after the originally scheduled term limit).
- The DAO Ops Stewards shall propose an additional proposal to the council outlining the actual election process and full execution timelines.
Approval Required
A simple majority of council members (4) is required for passage of this proposal.
Relevant Authorities
- By-laws section 15, *Council Terms: “*Each individual Council member’s term shall last no more than two (2) calendar years (“Term”). The Council must schedule and effectuate a public Community election for replacement Council members to be completed before the expiration of any given Council members’ two year Term. There is no limit on the number of Terms an individual Council member may serve. The procedure and method for the public Council election or appointment of additional Council members to newly created Council seats shall be decided by majority Council decision for each election, unless otherwise provided for by a Community-approved SIP. By unanimous decision, the remaining Council may appoint a new Council member to a vacant Council seat by reason of the former Council member resigning or being removed from the Council.”
